Paper Hearts Book Cover Redesign Mockup
Objective:
To redesign a book cover of our choosing using typography rather than illustrations.
Process:
I began this project by selecting one of my favourite books, “Paper Hearts” by Meg Wiviott. Based on a true story, the book narrates the intertwined journey of two young girls through Auschwitz. Despite the darkness of their surroundings, they defied orders, crafting heart-shaped birthday cards for each other using paper. In Illustrator, I hand-drew the font for the book’s title, incorporating lines of barbed wire to guide the reader across the front, spine, and back. The barbed wire motif was seamlessly integrated into the title, forming a heart, symbolizing the resilience depicted in the narrative. The background featured a stock image of crumpled paper, serving as a visual link to the story’s use of paper and conveying the distressed plot.
Medium/Tools Used:
Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
