Objective:
To create a combined design using motifs of life and death using a combination of watercolour (representing life) and ink drawing (representing death).
Process:
I started this assignment by thinking about themes of life and death in my personal experiences, leading me to focus on the subject of mental health. The inspiration stemmed from the complexities of the human mind, often loaded with unseen struggles as mental illnesses are commonly invisible. In my analog artwork, I used watercolours, primarily using green to signify the mental health awareness ribbon colour and complemented it with red. Utilizing a brush and a lot of water, I painted and blended these colours on a large watercolour paper. Following this, I sketched out my ink drawing, using various lines of flowers to symbolize different aspects of one’s life. As the flowers approach the focal point, they gradually begin to die, demonstrating how mental illness impacts various aspects of one’s life.
Medium/Tools Used:
Watercolour and liquid black ink
